A former Hanover County teacher and soccer coach pleaded guilty Tuesday to molesting six young girls, including four who attended his wife’s Chesterfield County day care and two others who were known to the family.
Leslie E. Deane Jr., 65, who was employed with Hanover schools for 25 years and most recently taught at Chickahominy Middle School, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual battery and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in a custodial role related to a series of incidents from 2001 to 2016.
In exchange for his guilty pleas, the prosecution withdrew eight other charges under terms of an agreement between the prosecution and defense. He could be sentenced up to 90 years in prison, but it is unlikely he will receive a punishment of that magnitude when he is sentenced May 25.
Four of the victims were enrolled at a day care facility that Deane’s wife operated out of their Chesterfield home in the 1900 block of Neptune Drive. They were between 4 and 6 years old when they attended the day care, Assistant Chesterfield Commonwealth’s Attorney Erin Barr told the court.
