‘Susie’s Place’ to open child advocacy center in Terre Haute

In 2015, Vigo County had the third highest child abuse/neglect rate in the state, at nearly 42 per 1,000 children under age 18, according to Kids Count in Indiana 2017, data released earlier this week.

The state average was 17 out of 1,000 children, and the lowest in the state was Hendricks County, with a rate of 3.4 per 1,000 children. Vigo ranked third-highest among Indiana’s 92 counties.

That high rate of neglect and abuse — including child sexual abuse — is one of the reasons Susie’s Place Child Advocacy Center will open a site in downtown Terre Haute, with a target of May 1, said Emily Perry, founder, executive director and child forensic interviewer at Susie’s Place, which currently has sites in Avon and Bloomington.
