Moorhead man charged in second child molestation case

Clay County prosecutors waited nine days to file charges against a Moorhead man accused of sexually abusing girls. The lapse in time raises the question: What took so long?

Jon Pabody was arrested March 12th after turning himself into police for molesting two children, a three and seven year old. It wasn't until Wednesday that a formal felony was filed in the latter case.

Court records show the 53 year-old admitted to police and his wife that he forced the girl to perform oral sex on him in a bathroom at their home daycare. She says he threatened to spank her if she didn't do what he said.

Prosecutors approved this latest criminal sexual conduct charge on the 21st. It carries a 30 year sentence. Police tell us the charge comes after a thorough investigation, which took longer than the other case. They had to talk with Pabody's wife and girl and a child advocate in the days following his arrest.

There could be more victims, but police have not identified any. Pabody is to be in court tomorrow.
