While bullying doesn't necessarily cause addiction, it can contribute significantly. Bullying can lead to mental health disorders and addiction for several reasons, with childhood victims facing a higher risk of substance abuse in adulthood, as shown by NIDA's research. The repercussions of bullying extend to mental health issues, school absenteeism, low self-esteem, and anxiety and depression, leaving long-lasting emotional scars that affect victims even into adulthood.
